About
Morganne Van Voorhis
She/Her
My work is an excavation of intimacy, capturing the raw, unpolished truths of human connection. Drawing inspiration from my lived experiences—long-distance relationships, anxiety, infertility, and motherhood—I explore quiet, uncomfortable moments that resist digital polish and curated perfection. Through analog processes like pinhole photography, printmaking, drawing, and painting, I embrace slowness.
I work autobiographically, using artifacts from my life as both medium and metaphor. My practice thrives on tension, and I gravitate toward tactile, labor-intensive methods. Whether it is using a pinhole camera crafted from a cardboard box and duct tape to document my son and I in blurry, imperfect black-and-white negative that mirror the unscripted chaos of parenthood. Or I might turn to a poster press to handset type, recounting each object (some intimate, incriminating) that has touched my body in the absence of my partner. These analog choices reject digital immediacy, prioritizing the physicality of light, time, and touch.
My work asks viewers to confront the quiet moments we often edit out. By merging analog processes with deeply personal narratives, I transform fleeting gestures into lasting artifacts that invite reflection. I find that vulnerability thrives where social media’s curated intimacy falters.
